Gold Medal Winners!

By S Mungall22nd November 2018

A HUGE congratulations to every child in Abbeyfields as our outstanding allotment was awarded the RHS Gold Medal in the ‘Britain In Bloom’ competition at the awards ceremony on Wednesday night. All of the children’s year round hard work preparing the beds, planting and pricking out thousands of seeds, potting on multitudes of plants and spending hours watering, pruning, weeding and feeding has paid off by not only providing the kitchens with a constant supply of fruit vegetables but national recognition of their efforts too.  The feedback from the national judges was outstanding and heaps much deserved praise on our uniquely green fingered children, setting them aside as some of the most skilled and knowledgeable young gardeners in the country – high praise indeed! Don’t hang up your spades just yet though…there’s still much work to do to prepare for winter and spring crops!

By S Mungall15th November 2018

Year 2 have being learning about how to achieve their fire safety badge at Forest School today. Mrs Sykes and Mrs Heide even had a competition to see who could light their fairy blanket the quickest to start their own little fires but the most exciting part was watching London burn.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

By S Mungall5th July 2018

Following a marathon 6 hours of football finals on Saturday, the Abbeyfields Football teams were crowned Champions in Year 4 and Year 3 league, and were 1st and 2nd in Finals Day!  They did themselves, and Abbeyfields, proud.  Their team working and sportsmanship have been evident throughout the season, so a very well done boys!  A special mention must go to Jack who was unable to play on Saturday but attended to support and cheer on his team-mates.

There are lots of ‘Thank Yous’ to be made to Sarah, John, Rob, Graham and Luke for giving up their time to train and coach our players, Jenni, Claire, Beccy and Aileen for organising refreshments to those who needed them, and finally to the parents who cheered the teams on each week.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Beccy Pearson (for organising) and everyone who supported the Big Spring Clean on Saturday.  From the photographs below, it looked like everyone young and old(er) had lots of fun, and it is amazing how much was achieved in just a few hours.  We think you’ll all agree that our school is looking wonderful as a result.  We are massively grateful for all of your time and effort.

FOAS – Canopy Project

By S Mungall2nd February 2018

Our 2018 Canopy Project will be built soon and we are super excited!. We are looking to construct the canopy adjacent to the North Hall.  It will provide shelter for seating and play while cascading colourful shapes across, over and around the space.  We envisage the children and teachers using this space for educational learning, encouraging children to interact with their environment imaginatively and for parents to take shelter under in the rain!  It will be a fantastic space for the children now and for years to come.

We are very grateful to Morpeth Lions (photographed here with Beccy Pearson, Chair of FOAS, and some of our pupils) who came to Abbeyfields to present Friends with a cheque for £1000 towards the canopy.  We received this through the Lions on behalf of Mrs Brenda Bell who was a teacher here for many years, who sadly died recently.  We have also accepted a park bench with a plaque remembering Mrs Bell for our playground.  The children are modelling it in the picture above!

On behalf of everybody at Abbeyfields, can we say a huge thank you for all of your generous donations over the years to benefit the children.  We are most grateful.

Government Consultation on Sex and Relationship Education

By K Shutler15th January 2018

Parents, teachers and students have been given the opportunity to help shape the new Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) curriculum.

In 2017, legislation was passed by Parliament to make relationships education compulsory in all primary schools and sex and relationship education compulsory in all secondary schools. The curriculum for the subject is also being updated.

The guidance for this change can be found here.

Please click here if you wish to complete the government consultation survey. It takes around 30 minutes and closes on 12 February.
